Dear fellow reader,
After many months of preparation, me and my team are fully prepared to fly to South-Africa!
The last piece of preparation we did may have been the most important.
We counted all the money that we collected with 19 people: €6384,20!!! This is a great amount of money to spend. We don't know yet on what we will spend the money, but think of things like scholarships, school supply and other charities. All 19 people in my team did their best and I am very proud to have brought such an amount of money all together.
Something else very important is: we met our buddies! Every Dutch student is matched with a South-African student. We will do activities with them to get a perfect image of what it is like to live in South-Africa. We already talked to all the buddies through WhatsApp. My buddy is called Jamie. She is a very lovely, caring and sweet girl. I can't wait to meet her. We talked a lot and I already know a lot about her and living in South-Africa (for example about her school life). We created a group chat with all the Dutch and South-African students. The group chat is really nice. We talk everyday (a lot). I already know about them that they go to church every Sunday and that they have school till 14:10 everyday. For the Dutch this is very early, so we were surprised. All of the buddies are very nice and open to us. They welcomed us very well. All of the buddies are around 15/16 years old, which is our age too. I am sure that the Dutch and South-Africans will have a great time together. This project is also very learnful for the South-Africans, because they get to know about the Dutch culture.
In South-Africa, we will be going to the Safe-Hub AMANDLA in the biggest township of Cape Town. We collected sport supply to donate to them. We have got 14 footballs, 30 sport shirts, 15 sport pants, 40 safety vests, 15 sport socks, a few whistles and a few stop watches. The people in the safe-hub will be very happy with this, because now they can do sports properly.
Someone of our team also brought baby supply and little caps for babies. We will donate this to families with babies.
As you can see, we have got a lot of things and money to donate. So when we go home, many people in South-Africa will be very happy
Everybody is really nervous and excited for our trip to South-Africa. I think that it will be unforgettable, thanks to all the preparation that is done in the Netherlands.
See you in South-Africa!
