Dear fellow reader,
In four months I will go to South-Africa with my team. Before we go, we work on preparations. I have already been to four meetings with the team.
During the first meeting in June, we did a lot of talking to get to know each other. We did different rounds of speeddating, in which we had to tell each other something about ourselves. Furthermore, we listened to the anthem of South-Africa, read Nelson Mandela's wisdoms and we got some important information about the internship (like the departure time etcetera).
During the second meeting in September, we talked about our mini lessons, which we will be doing at a primary school in Genadendal. My group will be giving a lesson about water management in the Netherlands. We also talked about our fundraising projects. Everybody has to collect money, which we will be spending on the people in Genadendal.
Later that month we had a teambuildingsday. We did trust games, like falling backwards on top of a box and then eight people have to catch you. We also did our presentations, my group talked about townships. We made our own lunch and had lunch together. We also talked about our hopes and fears. What do you think is scary and what do you hope to see in South-Africa? Lastly we did a photo quiz. Everybody brought a picture of their youth and you had to guess which picture belongs to who.
During the meeting in October, we got our vaccinations and information about the diseases in South-Africa. After that we talked about what we expect to see. How will the people be? Poor, but happy or maybe poor but sad? What do you think will be shocking to see? What do you expect from our leaders?
It's now October and we still have 4 meetings before we go. We will be fully prepared.
